UK-based Afghan journalist in solidarity plea for women fighting 'with empty hands'

Afghanistan's women are fighting "with empty hands" against the Taliban authorities' discriminatory agenda and feel ignored by the rest of the world, says Afghan journalist Zahra Joya. The founder in 2020 of Rukhshana Media -- a news agency which aims to amplify the voices and stories of Afghan women -- the 34-year-old left Kabul in 2021 when the Taliban returned to power. "We are alone in this war. And it is an unequal war against women in Afghanistan," she says as the August 15 five-year anniversary of that "heavy day" looms large.
